Examination & Evaluation policies for classes V-X

FOR CLASS I

In order to emphasize the writing skills, following changes have been decided for class V:

Students would be assessed through four assessments only as in practice. But the time duration of the test and syllabus being covered would be more a bit in Assessment III & IV as given below. However, there will be no change in Assessment I & II.

  1. Time duration of the test in Assessment III & IV each would be now 90 minutes (1hr. 30mins.).
  2. Cycle Test in Assessment III would comprise the syllabus meant for Assessment III & some portion of Assessment I & II as well.
  3. Likewise, Cycle Test in Assessment IV would comprise the syllabus meant for Assessment IV & some portion of Assessment I, II & III as well.

Please note that the final syllabus to be tested in each cycle test would be provided time to time.


For Classes VI – VIII (Scholastic Area)

  1. The entire year would be divided into two terms i.e. Term I & Term II for scholastic & co-scholastic areas both.
  2. Students would now be assessed through Internal Assessment (20 marks) & written examination (80 marks) in each term. Modalities are given below

1.Periodic Test I to be conducted in the month of July for 30 marks in each subject for 1 hour duration – to be converted out of 10 marks.

For Classes VI – VIII (Co-Scholastic Area)

  • As per the guideline by C.B.S.E., following co-curricular activities are suggested to be conducted for the holistic development of the student, these activities would be graded in 3-point grading scale (A to C) and will have no descriptive indicators (A=Outstanding, B=very Good, C=Good):
    • Work Education
    • Art Education
    • Health & Physical Education
    • Discipline
    • Club
  • Also, there will be no up-scaling of grades in scholastic subjects on the basis of Co-scholastic areas.
  • Disciplinesignificantly impacts character shaping and it helps build career. Sincerity, Good behavior and values develop strength and foster unity and cooperation. Therefore, the element of discipline has been introduced. Class teachers will be responsible for grading the students on a Three-point scale (A to C).

For Classes IX – X (Scholastic Area)

According to the assessment structure prescribed by C.B.S.E., students are assessed through Internal Assessment (20 marks) & Final/Board examination (80 marks). Modalities are given below:

  1. Internal Assessment (20 marks):

There will be three periodic tests during one academic session namely Periodic Test I, II & III. Details of these tests are as follows:

Students has to secure 33% marks out of overall marks earmarked in each subject

This will cover regularity, assignment completion, neatness & Upkeep of notebooks. Though, it will be assessed continuously but to be accounted in each periodic cycle and average of best two shall be considered /counted.

b.Annual Examination (Class IX) / Board Examination (class X)

Annual Examination for class IX in the month of March of the academic year would be conducted centrally for 80 marks in each subject (syllabus as prescribed by CBSE & planned by IGS) whereas C.B.S.E. Board will conduct class X examination for 80 marks in each subject covering 100% syllabus of the subject of class X only.
Marks and Grades both will be awarded for individual subjects by the Board in classes IX & X as prescribed for IX & X separately.

  • There will be no preparatory leave(s) during Periodic Tests I & II and would be conducted within regular school hours only. After the conduct of the above mentioned tests, regular classes would remain functional.

For Classes IX – X (Co-Scholastic Area)

  • As per the guideline by C.B.S.E., following co-curricular activities are suggested to be conducted for holistic development of the student, these activities would be graded in 5-point grading scale as in practice (A to E) and will have no descriptive indicators:
    • Work Education
    • Art Education
    • Health & Physical Education
  • Also, there will be no up-scaling of grades in the scholastic subjects on the basis of Co-scholastic areas.
  • Discipline significantly impacts character shaping and it helps build career. Sincerity, Good behavior and values develop strength and foster unity and cooperation.
